BASIC CONCEPT

(FOR GATE, SSC JE, ALP, OTHER GOV.EXAMS)

1.     STRESS:-

                       Defined as the force per unit area in (N-m²).

2.     STRAIN:-

              Strain is defined as the ratio of change in quantity to original quantity (unit less).

3.     FORCE:-

It is an important factor in field of engineering science. It is define as an agent which tends to produce motion or tends to destroy motion. (unit is Newton or Kilonewton).

4.     MASS:-

It is amount of matter contained in a given body and does not vary with the change in its position on earth surface in (Kg).

5.     WEIGHT:-

Weight is the product of mass into acceleration due to gravity.

          W=M*g (N or KN)

6.     TORQUE:-

It is the product of force and perpendicular distance of its line of action form the given point or axis in (N-m)

7.     COUPLE:-

When two equal and opposite parallel force, whose line of action are different, form a couple in (N-m)

8.     POWER:-

It is the ratio of work done to the time required OR in other word workdone per unit time in (W or KW)

9.     ENERGY:-

It is defined as the capacity to do work.

10. VELOCITY:-

Rate of change of displacement with respect to time in (m/sec).

11.  ACCELERATION:-

Rate of change of velocity with respect to time in (m/sec²).

12. VIBRATIONS:-

To and for motion about its mean/equilibrium position called as vibrations.

13. DENSITY:-

It is the rate of mass per unit volume in (Kg/m³).

14. PRESSURE:-

It is the define as the ratio of force per unit area in (N/m²).

15. BEARING:-

Bearing is a mechanical element that reduced friction between two moving parts.

16. FLYWHEEL:-

Flywheel is a mechanical device which is used to store the energy & gives up the energy which required by engine during working under high load.

17. GOVERNORS:-

Governor is a device used to maintain the speed of engine as closely as possible to a constant mean speed.

18. BRAKE:-

A device which convert kinetic energy into heat energy & dissipate to surrounding and is used for stopping the machine or device within smallest possible time for safety purpose.

19. SCAVENGING:-

It is the process of removing burnt gases from combustion chamber of engine cylinder.

20. ONE TON OF REFERIGERATION:-

It is amount of refrigeration effect or cooling effect which is produced by uniform melting of 1 ton of ice in 24 hours from or at 0⁰c.

21. WELDING:-

It is the process of joining of two similar or dissimilar metal by fusion.
